3M awarded Veterans Affairs contract

ST. PAUL, Minn.—3M, a provider of security solutions to businesses and governments, has been awarded a contract to provide identification document verification for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Homeland Security Presidential Directive system, according to a company statement. The 3M solution will be deployed at VA facilities throughout the United States.
The contract was awarded to 3M Cogent, a wholly owned subsidiary of 3M, through a competitive bid process. The software ensures that applicants are issued credentials based on electronically validated I-9 documents, and that the resulting data is available for audit and reporting purposes, according to the statement.
“This is the first HSPD-12 implementation of its type,” said Andrew Dubner, manager with 3M traffic safety and the security systems division's identity management business. “We are honored to be chosen by [the] VA to provide this solution, which will help contribute to increased integrity of the data stored within the HSPD-12 PIV system.”
