ADT license flap led police to stop responding to alarms

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—When ADT failed to give some insurance documentation to the city of Colorado Springs, the city recently invalidated the company's license and stopped sending police to investigate routine intrusion alarms, according to NBC affiliate KOAA-TV. ADT has since provided necessary documentation to the city, restoring police dispatch service, the station reported.

Barbara Miller, spokeswoman with Colorado Springs Police, told KOAA that police respond to alarms people activate, such as panic alarms, regardless of whether the alarm company is licensed.

ADT told KOAA that its insurance was always current, but that the city had requested additional documentation. The company has filed all the necessary paperwork, and apologized to customers for any inconvenience.
