Dancin’ in September

Dancin’ in September

As August winds down and September arrives this week, we know that school (for my kids, anyway) and the reemergence of autumn leaves and cooler temperatures are just around the corner.

While the title of my blog pays tribute to a classic song by Earth, Wind & Fire (one of my personal favorites by them, I might add), dancing in September seems a fitting description of what I’ll be doing over the next 30 days as this month promises to be a busy, yet very exciting one for yours truly.

Why, you may ask? My September itinerary is chock full of activities that I’ll be participating in on behalf of Security Systems News, and it’s all good stuff.

Where do I begin? I guess it’s better to go in sequential order so everyone can follow where my September adventures are taking me. First, I’ll be packing my suitcase and headed to Atlanta for GSX Sept. 12-14. This will be my first experience at GSX, and I’m very much looking forward to engaging with movers and shakers in the security industry and learn about all the new and exciting technologies that will significantly impact the marketplace, as well as catch up with some familiar faces, while getting acquainted with some new faces who I’ve only “met” virtually.

So come on down to the Georgia World Congress Center, the site of this year’s GSX, stop by our Booth No. 2654 and say hi. We’ll be walking the show floor as well, so we’ll make sure to drop by your booth and “get the scoop.” Should be a great couple of days in “Hotlanta.”

Just a couple of days later, I’ll be ditching the suit and tie and slipping into my softball uniform and cleats as I’ll be taking part in Mission 500’s annual softball game to benefit children in need.

Proceeds for this year’s game, which takes place Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Overpeck County Park Softball Field in Ridgefield Park, N.J., will go toward the New York Firefighters Burn Center Foundation to help send children who have suffered severe burn injuries to camp together so they could feel like kids again.

While my softball skills leave a lot to be desired (and from what I gather from social media, I’m not the only one in that category), I am more than honored to represent SSN and take part in this game for such a worthy cause. Let’s go Security Sluggers!

After getting a good night’s sleep on the 21st night of September (yes, another Earth, Wind & Fire reference from the same song), I am moderating our latest webcast – in partnership with the Security Industry Association (SIA) – on Thursday, Sept. 22, at 2 p.m. ET titled, “How to reduce cost and maximize your ROI of Physical Security.”

Roy Dagan, CEO and Co-Founder of SecuriThings, will touch on a variety of topics during our free webcast, such as: maximizing your Physical Security ROI by ensuring device uptime; streamlining the resolution of device issues; hardening devices against cyber threats while cutting costs; and improving future planning and budgeting for the technology life cycle.

Wow, September is a month I am very much looking forward to with all of these can’t-miss events on the docket. Kudos to Earth, Wind & Fire for writing a song about the ninth month of the year, because there’s going to be a lot of “dancin’ in September.”
