DEFENDERS hits 1.5 million customer mark

DEFENDERS hits 1.5 million customer mark Jim Boyce credits the company’s culture

INDIANAPOLIS—DEFENDERS, the largest ADT dealer, announced in early October that it has now protected more than 1.5 million customers.

“Foundationally, it's the DEFENDERS culture that is key to how we got here, and it's key to how we'll succeed in the future,” DEFENDERS president and CEO Jim Boyce told Security Systems News. Principally, he said that the company emphasizes one point to all of its employees: that they should “work harder on themselves than they do on their job.”

DEFENDERS' culture includes three core values, according to Boyce, “1. [We are] growth oriented learners … 2. We are competitive winners, and 3. We try to be humble servants.”

Boyce said the company also focuses on four “passions”: self-improvement, “systems are the solution,” developing leaders and expanding its influence.

When employees focus on their personal evolution, it benefits the workplace, according to Boyce. “Our business has evolved because we've become a much stronger and more competitive team. People that serve together, people that are investing in themselves and [are] learners—I think they become more competitive and more likely to win in the marketplace.”

Boyce said he is “very impressed” with ADT's new leadership team following the company's acquisition by Apollo and merger with Protection 1, announced in February.

DEFENDERS had 10 employees when the company was founded in 1998. The company now has 2,000 employees. Boyce estimated that the company reached 1 million customers in 2014.
