Bringing this team into the Security 101 organization strengthens our West Region and gives customers access to national resources delivered by the same local team they already trust.”

Silverstrand founder Jeremy Johnson will continue to lead the operation as general manager following the acquisition.

Johnson said partnering with Security 101 will help the company pursue larger opportunities while maintaining its customer relationships and workforce.

“My job has always been to take care of my employees so they can take care of our customers,” Johnson said. “I recently recognized that continuing to grow and take on larger projects would require a partner with the resources to back that work. I found that partner in Security 101.”

Security 101 said existing Silverstrand customers will retain access to the local team while gaining the benefits of the company's national infrastructure, managed services offerings and lifecycle support capabilities.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Pimloc taps former NSA director as strategic advisor

SAN FRANCISCO – Teresa Shea has joined Pimloc as a strategic advisor. Shea will advise Pimloc’s leadership team as the company expands its U.S. business, helping government agencies and enterprises protect personally identifiable information (PII) while enabling the responsible use of video, images, audio and documents. Shea brings more than three decades of leadership spanning intelligence, cybersecurity, advanced technology, and corporate governance. During her 32-year career at the National Security Agency (NSA), she rose to director of signals intelligence, leading the agency’s core intelligence mission. “Organizations shouldn’t have to choose between protecting privacy and making effective use of sensitive information,” said Simon Randall, CEO of Pimloc. “Teresa has spent her career leading organizations entrusted with protecting national security and sensitive data. She understands the challenges organizations face as they manage growing volumes of personal information and the need for strong privacy controls that enable its safe and responsible use. Her experience will be instrumental as we continue expanding our business globally." Pimloc says Shea’s appointment reflects Pimloc’s next phase of growth as it expands its work with federal agencies and global enterprises managing increasingly large and complex media datasets. “Every organization handling sensitive video, images, audio and documents today is navigating the same challenge I’ve spent most of my career managing: how to make responsible use of sensitive data without compromising personally identifiable information,” said Shea. “When people lose confidence that their information is being handled responsibly, they lose confidence in the institutions and systems meant to protect them. Security is only as strong as the public’s trust in it, and that starts with getting privacy right.”

Axis survey finds Americans growing more comfortable with video surveillance

CHELMSFORD, Mass.—A majority of Americans have become more comfortable with video surveillance over the past five years, according to new research released by Axis Communications.

The company's 2026 Public Perception of Video Surveillance survey found that 58% of U.S. adults are more comfortable with video surveillance in public and private spaces than they were five years ago. Eleven percent were less comfortable.

The survey, conducted among more than 1,000 U.S. adults, also found that public awareness of surveillance technology remains high. Seventy percent of respondents said they are either extremely aware or very aware of video surveillance systems in public spaces.

Growing acceptance of surveillance

"While the public is becoming more comfortable with video surveillance, that acceptance cannot be taken for granted," said Fredrik Nilsson, vice president, Americas, at Axis Communications. "The public sees a clear role for video surveillance in creating safer spaces, but they also expect organizations to use the technology responsibly."

Only 18% of respondents said they had avoided a location because of surveillance concerns, though attitudes varied by generation with 32% of Gen Z respondents saying they had avoided a place compared with 28% of millennials, 12% of Gen X respondents and 6% of baby boomers.

Comfort levels vary by location

Among specific locations, respondents expressed the highest comfort levels with surveillance in transportation settings. Seventy-eight percent said they were either very comfortable or somewhat comfortable with surveillance in transit hubs. Retail stores and shopping centers followed at 77%, while educational campuses registered 73%. Workplaces recorded the lowest level of comfort among the locations surveyed, though a majority of respondents still viewed surveillance favorably.

Mixed views on AI

Attitudes toward artificial intelligence (AI) applications in surveillance were mixed. Respondents reported the greatest comfort with AI tools designed to detect threats such as weapons, suspicious objects or unusual behavior in real time. Support was also relatively strong for certain law enforcement applications, including comparing facial images against databases of known criminal suspects, as well as automated identity verification in airport security environments.

At the same time, concerns about AI-enabled surveillance remained significant. Sixty-six percent of respondents cited worries about false positives or inaccurate information, while the same percentage expressed concerns about the misuse or mishandling of personal data.

Transparency and trust remain critical

According to Axis, the findings highlight increasing public acceptance of surveillance technologies alongside continued expectations that organizations deploy them responsibly and safeguard privacy. "This desire for transparent and ethical behavior further underscores the need for security vendors to earn the trust of the public," Nilsson said.

Parks Associates: Security continues to drive smart home subscription revenues

DALLAS —More than half of smart home device owners do not pay recurring fees for their connected products, according to new research from Parks Associates, highlighting both the challenges and opportunities facing the smart home subscription market. The firm's report, “Smart Home Platforms: UX, Loyalty, Monetization,” found that 53% of smart home device owners do not pay subscription fees tied to their smart home devices, systems or appliances. The findings are based on quarterly surveys of 8,000 U.S. internet households. Security-related services continue to represent the strongest source of recurring revenue in the smart home market.

According to the research:

  • 37% of smart home device owners pay for a home security system service.
  • 19% pay for a video device subscription service.
  • 17% pay for enhanced network monitoring, data privacy or cybersecurity services.
  • 16% pay for a premium AI voice assistant service, such as Alexa+, Google Home Premium with Gemini or Josh.ai.

“Security is still the anchor for subscription revenue in the smart home,” said Daniel Holcomb, senior analyst of smart home research at Parks Associates. “AI will help expand the market further, but successful services need to solve tangible household problems, like protecting the home, preventing failures, lowering costs, and making technology easier to manage.” The research found that smart home device owners now represent roughly half of U.S. internet households. Among those consumers, Parks Associates identified several emerging service categories with strong appeal, including cybersecurity monitoring, maintenance monitoring, energy optimization, context-aware home security and home technology support services. The report also found that ownership of dedicated smart home control hubs remains limited. Adoption of stand-alone hubs held steady at 5% of U.S. internet households in 2025, unchanged from 2024 and 2023. However, hub adoption increases significantly among households with a larger number of connected devices. “Dedicated hubs serve smart home power users seeking sophisticated cross-device automation,” Holcomb said. “Hub functionality for mainstream consumers is often incorporated into smart speakers, displays, security systems and other products.”

ARCO marks 30 years in business

PROVO, Utah—ARCO Lock & Security is celebrating more than 30 years in business, marking a milestone that reflects its longstanding focus on protecting homes and businesses across Utah and Arizona. Founded in 1995 as a locksmith operation, the company has expanded its offerings over the years to include residential and commercial security solutions, access control systems, alarm monitoring and business security technologies. Despite advances in smart home and commercial security technology, ARCO says its customer-first approach remains unchanged. “Thirty years ago, security meant a good lock and a locksmith who showed up when he said he would,” said Adam Smith, owner of ARCO Lock & Security. “That part hasn’t changed. We still believe in doing the job right and treating every customer with respect.” While the company has broadened its commercial security offerings, ARCO emphasized its continued commitment to homeowners seeking reliable protection. The company serves residential customers with locksmith services, smart lock solutions and monitored security systems designed to help safeguard homes and families. According to ARCO, its growth over the past three decades has been driven by a combination of hands-on service and adoption of newer technologies, including cloud-based access control, mobile-managed security systems and real-time alerts. Today, the company provides security and locksmith services throughout Utah and parts of Arizona, maintaining that local service and responsiveness remain critical as it expands into new communities. “We don't take on a new community lightly,” Smith said. “Before we ever put our name on a truck in Avondale, Anthem or Sun City, we made sure we had the technicians and response times to back it up.” ARCO said all customers, including homeowners, have access to free phone technical support, a service the company has maintained as security systems have become increasingly connected and technology driven. The company's anniversary comes as residential security continues to evolve, with homeowners increasingly adopting smart locks, remote monitoring capabilities and app-based security management. ARCO says its goal is to combine those modern capabilities with the personalized service that has defined the business since its founding. “Our reviews matter to us. Hundreds of five-star ratings didn’t happen by accident, and we intend to earn that same trust with every new neighborhood we serve,” Smith said.

Allied Universal CEO raises record $3.2 million for human trafficking victims

IRVINE, Calif.—Allied Universal Global Chairman and CEO Steve Jones and his wife, Stacy Jones, have raised a record-setting more than $3.2 million for Vera’s Sanctuary, a licensed residential drug treatment facility that serves young women recovering from human trafficking. The funds were generated through the couple’s annual Hot Summer Nights fundraiser, held in August and attended this year by more than 700 guests and supported by nearly 100 sponsors. According to Allied Universal, every dollar raised through the event goes directly to Vera’s Sanctuary. “Across the U.S., nearly 30,000 residential care facilities serve people facing addiction, homelessness or domestic violence, yet victims of human trafficking have only one licensed residential drug treatment shelter and it is just miles from our global headquarters in Orange County,” Jones said. “Stacy and I believe this urgent issue deserves far greater attention. That is why we underwrite and host the Hot Summer Nights fundraiser each year to raise awareness and ensure that every dollar raised goes directly to supporting the life-changing work of Vera’s Sanctuary.” Over the past decade, the fundraiser’s donors, sponsors and attendees have collectively contributed more than $14.7 million to support the organization’s mission. Founded in 2018, Vera’s Sanctuary provides comprehensive rehabilitation and recovery services for trafficking survivors between the ages of 15 and 26. The program offers licensed drug treatment services alongside food, shelter, clothing, medical care, psychiatric support, prenatal services and transportation.

Residents also receive approximately 30 hours of therapeutic services each week and have access to educational opportunities, vocational training, internships, job placement assistance and automobile gift programs. Unlike many residential treatment programs, Vera’s Sanctuary places no maximum limit on length of stay, allowing residents to progress through recovery at their own pace. Since opening its doors eight years ago, the organization has provided rehabilitation services to more than 600 women, helping survivors rebuild their lives and transition toward long-term independence.

PSG, Mercury Security partner to extend Zero Trust to physical security's far edge

AUSTIN, Texas—Prometheus Security Group Global (PSG) has announced a technology partnership with Mercury Security aimed at bringing Zero Trust principles to the furthest edge of physical security systems, including readers, sensors, door hardware and other field devices. The partnership combines Mercury's access control hardware platform with PSG's technology for embedding cryptographic identity, authentication and verification capabilities directly into field devices. The companies said the effort is designed to help organizations verify the integrity of data before it enters a security system or network. According to the companies, the partnership targets operational technology (OT) Layers 0 and 1, where field devices generate signals and data used by access control and other security systems. The companies said many physical security systems continue to rely on end-of-line resistor technology to monitor device circuits. While effective at detecting faults, those systems generally do not provide device identity, authentication or signal verification capabilities. PSG said its technology enables organizations to cryptographically authenticate field devices and verify signals at their source, reducing the risk of compromised or spoofed inputs entering the system. “Zero Trust begins with knowing that the data entering a system is both authenticated and verified,” said Rick Gross, CEO of Prometheus Security Group Global. “Mercury's leadership in access control, combined with PSG's embedded identity and signal verification at Layers 0 and 1, gives customers a powerful way to strengthen security at the far edge across both analog and digital environments without requiring wholesale replacement of existing infrastructure.” Mercury Security said the partnership aligns with growing customer demand for stronger cybersecurity protections within physical security systems. “Mercury has built its reputation on delivering open, flexible and highly reliable access control solutions,” said Damon Dageenakis, senior director of product management at Mercury Security. “By collaborating with PSG, we are strengthening the integrity of physical security data and supporting the evolving cybersecurity requirements of our customers.” The companies said they will collaborate on technology initiatives, customer engagement efforts and market education programs focused on applying Zero Trust principles throughout physical security environments. The partnership is intended to help organizations strengthen security at the device level while preserving existing investments in access control and other physical security infrastructure.

Ambient.ai launches agentic monitoring, investigation tools ahead of GSX 2026

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.—Ambient.ai has introduced a series of new agentic AI capabilities designed to help security operations teams monitor incidents, conduct investigations and manage growing video surveillance environments more efficiently.

The updates include a new Agentic Video Wall, enhanced case management workflows, Semantic Search improvements and infrastructure upgrades that allow organizations to support more cameras on existing hardware. The company said the additions expand its Ambient Platform by bringing artificial intelligence (AI)-driven automation to security monitoring, investigations and operational management. “Recording video was never the hard part,” said Vikesh Khanna, CTO and co-founder of Ambient.ai. “The hard part is understanding what's happening on a site when it actually matters. Among the set of new capabilities, Agentic Video Walls give operators an agent that monitors every camera on their behalf, and Case Management, an automated workflow that, paired with Semantic Search, turns hours of manual scrubbing into a fully connected investigation in minutes.”

AI-powered monitoring

At the center of the release is Agentic Video Walls, which applies AI across every connected camera stream and surfaces what the system determines to be the most important activity in real time. According to Ambient.ai, the feature continuously analyzes video feeds and highlights the most relevant event approximately every 60 seconds, accompanied by an AI-generated description of what is occurring. The company said the capability is designed to improve situational awareness by reducing the number of video feeds operators must actively monitor.

Streamlining investigations

Ambient.ai also introduced Case Management, a new workflow intended to speed investigations. The feature enables operators to build cases as they review video evidence, collecting clips directly into a centralized investigation file. The platform can then generate an editable incident narrative, organize clips and metadata, and create packages that can be downloaded or shared through secure links. The company also enhanced Semantic Search, its natural-language video search tool. Users can describe a person, vehicle or activity using plain language and search across surveillance footage without manually reviewing video. Under the latest update, search results involving the same person or vehicle across multiple frames can be grouped into a single result, while users can narrow searches to specific cameras or camera groups.

Focus on enterprise scale

Ambient.ai also announced infrastructure enhancements aimed at reducing deployment costs. The company said its Ambient Foundation platform now supports up to twice as many camera streams on a single Ambient Edge Appliance by reducing computing and memory requirements. Existing customers can increase camera capacity on current hardware, while new deployments may require fewer appliances to support the same number of cameras. The new capabilities, along with other recent platform updates, will be demonstrated at GSX 2026 in Atlanta, where Ambient.ai will exhibit at booth No. 3923.
