In brief: Ranger adds D&G, Brivo launches AI platform, Ultra Security secures funding

LONDON—Ranger Fire and Security has acquired D&G Security Systems, strengthening its presence in England's Midlands region and bringing the group's total number of businesses to 27.

Founded in 2011 and based in Stourport-on-Severn, Worcestershire, D&G Security Systems provides intruder alarms, CCTV, access control, security lighting and fire alarm services for residential, commercial and industrial customers across the public and private sectors.

Under the agreement, D&G's leadership team, led by Director Darren Griffiths, will remain in place along with its engineers and support staff. The company also will continue coordinating day-to-day operations while benefiting from the resources and scale of the broader Ranger organization.

The acquisition expands Ranger's Midlands footprint alongside existing group companies Ignis Fire Protection, based in Solihull, and MarkOne Safety Solutions, based in Stourbridge.

"We're delighted to welcome Darren and the D&G team to Ranger," Mark Bridges, CEO of Ranger Fire and Security, said. "Since 2011, they've built a strong reputation for providing a reliable, personal service to their customers, exactly the kind of like-minded, customer-centric business we want to partner with."

D&G is the latest company to join Ranger since European investment firm Inflexion made a majority investment in the group in June 2026. Ranger said the backing is helping fuel its growth strategy across the UK and Ireland through acquisitions and investments in technology and talent.

"It's an exciting next step for our business and our team, and I'm looking forward to working closely with other group businesses as we continue to cement Ranger as the go-to national provider for all fire and security needs," Griffiths said.

Brivo brings security data into AI assistants

AUSTIN, Texas—Brivo has launched a new artificial intelligence (AI) integration platform designed to help security integrators manage customer accounts, analyze business performance and streamline operations using popular large language models such as ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini. The company's new Brivo Reseller MCP is being billed as the first Model Context Protocol (MCP) server built specifically for security systems integrators. The platform allows resellers to connect Brivo data directly to AI assistants and use natural-language prompts to access account information, identify business trends, monitor system health and generate reports. “Brivo meets our customers and partners wherever they do their work. Today many people spend a lot of time working in tools like Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini because these tools are so powerful,” said Steve Van Till, founder and president of Brivo. “You can now use whatever AI tool you like to help manage your Brivo system using natural language prompts. We meet you where you need us to meet you.” Brivo said partners can use the MCP platform to perform analyses that traditionally required extensive manual effort. For example, an integrator could ask an AI assistant to review account, door and panel growth over the past year, analyze pricing tiers and compare sales performance against targets. The platform includes capabilities such as identifying offline control panels and reader issues, reviewing account and billing information, tracking usage and growth metrics, creating customer reports and support tickets, and combining security data with information from CRM, billing and project-management systems. Early users say the technology could help improve both operational efficiency and customer service. “Our Alarm Support team will use it to catch offline panels and reader errors before customers call, resolve issues remotely before rolling a truck, prep account summaries ahead of customer reviews, and reconcile door counts and editions against what we bill,” said Merle Hughes, vice president of service at NAVCO. Brivo noted that the initial release is read-only, meaning users can access and analyze information but cannot make system changes, edit accounts or remotely lock and unlock doors through AI assistants.

Totem, Milestone link video management, monitoring

GUAYAQUIL, Ecuador—Totem and Milestone Systems have partnered to combine Milestone's XProtect video management software with Totem's 24/7 remote monitoring services, giving central stations and monitoring centers a way to expand video operations without significantly increasing staffing and infrastructure. Under the arrangement, Totem will provide video verification, event review and monitoring support through trained operators, while Milestone's open-platform XProtect video management system delivers integration with a broad range of cameras, devices and third-party applications. "Milestone gives security professionals an exceptionally powerful video management platform. Totem helps make sure that capability doesn't stop at the screen," said Luis Fernando Uribe Blum, CEO of Totem. "Our role is to bring the operational side of security into the equation, including trained people, 24/7 coverage, verification and response." According to Totem, many monitoring centers already have the customers, cameras and video management systems needed to support expanded video services but may lack the personnel and operational capacity required to monitor growing numbers of cameras and events around the clock. Rather than requiring central stations to build those capabilities internally, Totem positions its services as an extension of existing monitoring operations. "The technology identifies the information. The monitoring operation gives it context," the company said. The companies said the partnership is particularly relevant for U.S. monitoring centers seeking to grow their video-monitoring offerings while controlling operational costs and avoiding the need to expand facilities and staffing at the same pace as customer growth. "The security industry has spent years investing in better cameras, better analytics, and better video management," Uribe Blum said. "The next question is how we operationalize all of that intelligence. Our partnership with Milestone allows us to help monitoring centers bridge that gap. We bring the people and operational expertise that turn a sophisticated video environment into an active security service."

NFPA urges Halloween fire safety as holiday approaches

QUINCY, Mass.—The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is reminding consumers to keep fire safety top of mind as Halloween celebrations ramp up, citing the fire risks associated with decorations, candles and costumes. According to NFPA, an estimated average of 835 home structure fires each year between 2020 and 2024 began with decorations, resulting in three deaths, 29 injuries and $18 million in direct property damage. Nearly half of those fires occurred when decorations were placed too close to a heat source, while about one-third were started by candles. "From decorating with jack-o-lanterns to costume parties and trick-or-treating, Halloween includes a host of celebrations and activities that introduce the risk of fire," said Lorraine Carli, NFPA's vice president of outreach and advocacy. "Fortunately, the vast majority of these risks can be prevented with a little added awareness and caution." In addition, the association recommends testing all smoke alarms in the home before Halloween festivities begin. "Halloween is filled with spooky fun, but it also presents lurking fire hazards that can quickly turn the festive holiday into a truly scary one," NFPA said in its advisory.

He joined Commend in 2009 as Northeast regional manager and previously spent nine years with EY's financial services practice. "We built RAD's early growth selling direct and through guarding companies. That got us here. It won't get us where we're going, and we can't keep doing everything the way we've done it," said Steve Reinharz, CEO, CTO and founder of AITX and RAD. "RAIA and SARA are built for the integrator and distribution channels, and those channels want to work with someone who has run a business like theirs." The appointment comes as RAD looks to expand partner-driven sales and broaden adoption of its AI-powered security technologies through established industry channels. The company said Reilly's first assignment will be developing a channel strategy with measurable milestones. RAD said the initiative supports its goal of reaching positive operating cash flow by December 2026 through increased partner-driven revenue growth without adding fixed costs. "I came up selling through integrators and dealers, and what I took from it is that you can stay close to the end user without ever going around the partner who owns that account," Reilly said. "RAD already works that way, the products are built for partners, and the direct business has proven they work. The program around that is the part I'm here to build."
